About VisiMatik
VisiMatik is a privately owned Montreal-based company founded by Louis Dagenais and Marcin Swiatek. The two VisiMatik principals have over 25 years of experience between them in the development of world-class software applications in the Life Sciences and Drug Discovery sectors as employees of organizations such as GE Healthcare Biosciences, Amersham Biosciences and Imaging Research Inc. We specialize in software development consulting and software product development in Life Sciences and Drug Discovery Imaging and Data Analysis applications.
Our expertise narrowly defined is in image and data analysis for life sciences research and drug discovery, covering the range of image acquisition, image analysis, visualization, bioinformatics, and statistical data analysis. We have particular know-how in developing, verifying and validating fully automated imaging assay algorithms as well as setting up software that allows biologists to design their own imaging assays. We have experience visualizing and analyzing digital HistoPathology slide images, chromogenic or fluorescent immunostaining, full face slides or tissue microarrays.
Our expertise more broadly defined is in algorithm design, large dataset processing, data visualization, highly automated data processing, rigorous algorithm verification and validation, instrument control, automated self-calibration/self-diagnostics functionality, and intellectual property rights.
VisiMatik Pronounciation
VisiMatik is the combination of Vision with Informatik (i.e. Computing), and should be pronounced as rhyming with 'Boutique'.
Louis Dagenais
Louis Dagenais is a co-founder of VisiMatik. He has a Masters from the University of Waterloo and an MBA from McGill University. Louis has lived through the technology startup process joining Imaging Research Inc., a small privately owned startup, in its early days, helping to develop a family of imaging solutions for the life science research and drug discovery communities, and then, as a member of the senior management team, leading the Software Development department through times of growth and adaptation required by the acquisition of the company by multinationals, first by Amersham Biosciences and then GE Healthcare.
While going through the McGill MBA program, Louis was President and founding member of the McGill MBA Entrepreneurship club, part of the winning team of the 2006 Queens QUEST / Virgin Canada's 'Next Big Thing' business pitch competition and a researcher for Christine Arena's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) book The High-Purpose Company, a Harvard Business Review 'Top 20' Books for 2007.
Louis has worked as a Technology/Business Development Consultant in the field of Histopathology Imaging with a special focus on the use of tissue imaging for Biomarker Validation.
Louis has 4 patent applications (filed, pending, granted) to his name.
Marcin Swiatek
Marcin is a co-founder of VisiMatik. He has a Masters in Computer Science from Warsaw University. He has an extensive background in commercial software development, in developing highly technical software components/algorithms of significant IP value. He has held technology manager, section manager, team leader, principal programmer roles in: GE Healthcare Biosciences, Amersham Biosciences, and Imaging Research Inc.. He contributed to the definition of the MGED MIAME data standards (Minimum Information About Microarray Experiments) and the development of related supporting software tools.
Marcin has worked as a BioInformatics Research for the Research Institute of McGill University Health Centre exploring through simulations, data analysis and advanced algorithm research, computational problems in the field of Genome Wide Association Studies (GWAS). GWAS are large-scale statistical tests of significance where some of the key technical issues are efficient data access and computation.
Marcin has 4 patent applications (filed, pending) to his name.
